How to downgrade back to iOS 7.1.2 from iOS 8. It has been a week since the release of iOS 8 for all users. But the surprising fact placed on our table is Apple still opens the access to downgrade back to the iOS 7.1.2.

This is of course a great chance if you dislike with the said latest iOS, you should take this opportunity to go back to iOS 7 version. And lucky you since this post comes with all the steps needed to achieve the same.

How to downgrade back to iOS 7.1.2 from iOS 8

  1. Download the f0recast app for your Windows or Mac OS X computer.
  2. Connect your iOs device to your computer (the computer with the f0recast installed).
  3. Open that app, you will see a window containing the information of the device that is currently connected to your computer.
  4. Now hit the blue text on the bottom screen.
  5. f0recast will direct you to the browser to open the page containing the iPSW for your device.
  6. Now find the table with the iOS 7.1.2 then hit the orange text to start downloading the iOS.

  7. One thing to note that make sure that in Apple Signing Status there is a green checklist sign, otherwise you won't be able to restore to the firmware.

Remember once you downgraded to iOS 7.1.2 all the backups from iOS 8 can not be restored to iOS 7.1.2. iOS 7.1.2 can only restore backups from iOS 7.1.2 device. So if you don't have iOS 7.1.2 backup, your device will have nothing to restore.

You have the IPSW, that means you can proceed to restore

Now since you have the exact IPSW file, it's time to restore back to the iOS 7.1.2 or widely known as 'downgrade'.
  1. Please to firstly make a necessary backup, before you downgrade the wished iOS version. Connect your iOS based devices to computer, launch iTunes, find the Backup option.
  2. Open your device in the tab in left side of iTunes. Then press and hold the Option for Mac, if you use Windows then hold Shift key then hit the Restore icon.
  3. After that, you will be asked to select the IPSW file to restore. Find the iOS 7.1.2 IPSW then select it.
  4. Please before the restore process begin, make sure you are connected to the internet.
  5. Now you can wait until the restoring process finishes.
