How To Enter DFU Mode In iPhone, iPad

DFU mode is needed when we want to restore our iOS device's iPSW or want to perform jailbreak using Redsn0w or Sn0wBreeze. We don't need entering DFU mode if using Absinthe jailbreak.

But before we go on to learn on how to enter DFU Mode in iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. It is better to know what is DFU mode.

What is DFU Mode?

DFU Mode or Device Firmware Upgrade Mode is a special condition where our iOS device has not loaded any operating system, including iBoot, and can communicate with iTunes.

An iPhone who is in DFU Mode will show a dark screen.

I purposely create this post to help you understand what is DFU mode, so if you encounter any difficulty when entering DFU mode. Then you can follow the following steps.

How to enter DFU Mode in iPhone - iPad - iPod


Step 1. Connect your iPhone to PC using the existing USB cable, after connected launch iTunes.

Step 2. Be sure your device is detected by iTunes. If not, check your USB cable or your PC's USB port make sure it's in good condition.

Step 3. Press Power button for about 3 seconds to power off your device.

Step 4. If your iPhone or iPad is a powered off, then press Power again for about 3 seconds till Apple logo appears.

Step 5. Keep holding the Power button and Home button for about 7 till 10 seconds, or until the Apple logo dissapear.

Step 6.  After your screen shaken or the Apple logo is gone. Then release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10 - 15 seconds. iTunes will detect your iPhone or iPad inside the recovery mode. See the following image.
